S witzerland defeated Colombia 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw through 120 minutes at BC Place in Vancouver on 7 July, reaching the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup in front of 52,497 supporters.

Neither side found the net in a tightly contested match. Colombia lost James Rodriguez to substitution at 66 minutes, with Juan Quintero and Jaminton Campaz coming on. Granit Xhaka picked up a yellow card in the 51st minute, Denis Zakaria followed in the 59th, and Colombian midfielder Luis Suarez was booked at 60 minutes.

In the penalty shootout, Granit Xhaka, Zeki Amdouni, Cedric Itten and Ruben Vargas all converted for Switzerland. Juan Quintero, Jaminton Campaz and Luis Diaz scored for Colombia, but one Colombian effort was missed. Switzerland won 4-3 and will face Argentina in the quarter-finals on 11 July in Kansas City.
