S pain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final of the 2026 World Cup at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on 19 July, in front of 80,663 spectators, to win the trophy for the first time since 2010.

The final was goalless after 90 minutes. Argentina were reduced to ten men when Enzo Fernandez was sent off in the 90th minute, having been booked earlier in the second half, with Cristian Romero also cautioned in stoppage time. The match went to extra time still level.

Substitute Ferran Torres, on for Mikel Oyarzabal since the 62nd minute, broke the deadlock in the 106th minute, early in the second period of extra time, to put Spain 1-0 ahead. Argentina, a man light, could not find a way back and Spain held on to be crowned world champions.
