Spain reached the final by beating Portugal 1-0 in the round of 16, Belgium 2-1 in the quarter-final and France 2-0 in the semi-final, with substitute Mikel Merino scoring the winner in two of those knockout matches. They have not lost since the tournament's knockout stage began.
Argentina's run has been more dramatic. They came from 0-2 down to beat Egypt 3-2 in the round of 16, needed extra time to see off Switzerland 3-1 in the quarter-final, and scored twice in the final five minutes to beat England 2-1 in the semi-final.
Spain are chasing their first World Cup title since 2010, while Argentina are bidding to win back-to-back titles after their 2022 triumph in Qatar.
