Argentina trailed 0-2 with eleven minutes left before Cristian Romero, Lionel Messi and Enzo Fernandez scored in a frantic finish to seal a 3-2 victory over Egypt at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
A rgentina defeated Egypt 3-2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on 7 July to reach the quarter-finals, recovering from 0-2 down with three goals in eleven minutes in front of 68,239 spectators.
Egypt took the lead through Yasser Ibrahim on 15 minutes and doubled the advantage when Mostafa Zico scored on 67 minutes. Argentina then produced a remarkable comeback: Cristian Romero pulled one back on 79 minutes, Lionel Messi equalised on 83 and Enzo Fernandez completed the turnaround in the 90th minute. An Egyptian player was sent off in stoppage time as tempers rose.
Argentina advance to the quarter-finals and will face Switzerland on 11 July in Kansas City.
