S outh Africa reached the knockout phase of the 2026 World Cup for the first time with a 1-0 victory over Korea Republic at Monterrey Stadium on Thursday.

The match was tight throughout, with both sides creating chances in an even first half. Thapelo Maseko broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute with a composed finish, giving South Africa the lead they would not relinquish.

Korea Republic, with Son Heung-min introduced in the second half, pushed for an equaliser but South Africa's defensive effort held firm to secure a memorable win.

South Africa advance from Group A. Korea Republic exit the tournament.
