Livramento Ruled Out of World Cup, Chalobah Called Up by England
Tino Livramento has been ruled out of the World Cup with an injury picked up in training, and England have called up Trevoh Chalobah as a replacement on the eve of their opener against Croatia.
E ngland have been dealt a blow on the eve of their World Cup opener against Croatia, with Tino Livramento ruled out of the tournament after an injury sustained in training. Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, who was on the stand-by list, has been called up in his place.
Tuchel explains the call-up
Manager Thomas Tuchel said the choice gave his back line full coverage. "We called Trevoh Chalobah, because we can free up Jarell Quansah as a full-back on both sides. Djed Spence can play as a full-back on both sides. Trevoh comes as a centre-back alternative, which gives us full coverage in the back four," he said. Reports suggested Livramento faces several weeks out.
A disrupted build-up
It has been an unsettled first week for England, who had also seen their preparations disrupted off the pitch. Chalobah, who has one cap, joins up with the squad as Tuchel’s side prepare to begin their Group L campaign against Croatia.
