Austria Edge Debutants Jordan to Mark World Cup Return
Romano Schmid’s stunner and a late Marko Arnautovic penalty saw Austria beat World Cup debutants Jordan 3-1 in their Group J opener in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Schmid stuns, Jordan respond
Schmid curled a beautiful effort into the top corner in the 20th minute. Jordan, on their World Cup debut, levelled through Ali Olwan in the 50th, but Austria soon regained control.
Austria see it out
An own goal by Yazan Alarab restored Austria’s lead in the 76th, and Marko Arnautovic sealed the win from the penalty spot deep in stoppage time for 3-1.
Group J
Austria join Argentina with a winning start in Group J, which also features Algeria and Jordan.
