C anada came from behind to draw 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in their 2026 World Cup home opener at Toronto Stadium, Cyle Larin rescuing a point after Jovo Lukic had put the visitors ahead. It finished level in Group B in front of a crowd of 43,002.
Lukic punishes the hosts
The early energy promised goals, with both sides carving out a good chance inside the opening two minutes. It was Bosnia and Herzegovina who struck first, Jovo Lukic finishing in the 21st minute to quiet the home crowd. The half turned scrappy, with Alistair Johnston, Ermedin Demirovic and Lukic himself all booked before the break.
Larin levels for Canada
Canada pushed after the restart and got their reward in the 78th minute, when Cyle Larin levelled for the co-hosts and turned the volume back up in Toronto. A flurry of substitutions on both sides changed the rhythm, and the closing stages were stretched and open as Canada chased a winner.
A point to build on
Neither side could find a second. Five yellow cards, the last to Nikola Katic deep in stoppage time, summed up a physical opener. For Canada, playing a home World Cup as co-hosts, it is a point rescued from a losing position; for Bosnia and Herzegovina, back at the World Cup for the first time since their 2014 debut, it is a creditable opening point on the road. Group B looks wide open.
