Japan Snatch Late Draw With the Netherlands in Dallas

Daichi Kamada’s 88th-minute goal earned Japan a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in their Group F opener at Dallas Stadium, after Virgil van Dijk and Crysencio Summerville had twice put the Oranje ahead.

J apan twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with the Netherlands in a thrilling Group F opener at Dallas Stadium, Daichi Kamada’s late goal cancelling out a night when the Oranje had looked set to edge a heavyweight clash.

Goalless first half

The opening 45 minutes produced no goals, but the contest burst into life after the break.

Four goals after the break

Virgil van Dijk headed the Netherlands in front in the 50th minute. Japan replied through Keito Nakamura in the 57th, his strike finding the bottom corner. Crysencio Summerville restored the Dutch lead in the 64th with a fine finish, only for Kamada to level in the 88th from a goalmouth scramble after a Japan corner.

A point for both

The draw leaves two of Group F’s leading contenders with a point apiece, in front of 69,285 at Dallas Stadium.
